**Generalka** is a cave in [Zagorje](/source/Zagorje) with a 25 metres (82 ft) horizontal passage length, located on the north slope of the [Ivanščica](/source/Ivan%C5%A1%C4%8Dica) massif, above the [rock quarry](/source/Rock_quarry) Vudelja that opened in 1935 for road building purposes. It is a dry horizontal cave, and small, but complex. It is difficult to access, but a tourist path has been planned.

## Description

The cave is located on the [Generalski Stol](/source/Generalski_Stol_(Ivan%C5%A1%C4%8Dica)) plateau of Ivanščica. The cave formed in [Anisian](/source/Anisian) [dolomite](/source/Dolostone) under a combination of [tectonic](/source/Tectonic), [erosive](/source/Erosion), and [corrosive](/source/Corrosion) conditions. It is small, so at 6 points its passages remain incompletely explored because of narrowness alone. But its passages form a complex network of 4 interconnected passages. The cave likely continues to the northwest towards a second entrance.[4]

[Speleothems](/source/Speleothem) include [stalactites](/source/Stalactite), [stalagmites](/source/Stalagmite), and [flowstone](/source/Flowstone), along with the occasional [stalagnate](/source/Stalagnate) and [coralloids](/source/Cave_popcorn).[5]

## History

Cavers from the newly founded [HSS](/source/Croatian_Caving_Society) section [Kraševski Zviri](/source/Kra%C5%A1evski_Zviri) discovered the cave on 7 November 2009. The cave had long been known to locals. A cache of [spitzer bullets](/source/Spitzer_(bullet)) in the cave was found at the bottom of the entrance pit. They returned on the 14th and widened the very narrow entrance, removing the cache.[7] They then mapped the cave topographically. A microclimate expedition was undertaken on 15 April 2012, during which the cave was systematically photographed.[8]

## Climate

A strong wind emanates from the lower entrance, indicating the presence of an upper entrance. The [air temperature](/source/Air_temperature) of the cave is 9.8 °C (49.6 °F), with a [soil temperature](/source/Soil_temperature) of 9.7 °C (49.5 °F). The [relative humidity](/source/Relative_humidity) is 98%.[9]

## Biology

Fauna include [Araneae](/source/Araneae) and [Gastropoda](/source/Gastropoda).[5]

## Tourism

A tourist path has been planned from [Šumec](/source/%C5%A0umec,_Lepoglava) to [Bračkova jama](/source/Bra%C4%8Dkova_jama) and [Bračkova špilja](/source/Bra%C4%8Dkova_%C5%A1pilja), and from there to [Voska luknja](/source/Voska_luknja) and [Voska špilja](/source/Voska_%C5%A1pilja), then to [Šumec](/source/%C5%A0umec_(cave)) and [Karlova špilja](/source/Karlova_%C5%A1pilja), then to Generalka and [Polušpilja Generalski Stol](/source/Polu%C5%A1pilja_Generalski_Stol).[10][11]
