**Genevieve Fricker** (born 3 November 1989) is an Australian stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and radio presenter.

## Early life and education

Fricker was born in [Sydney](/source/Sydney), Australia, and [has Māori heritage](/source/M%C4%81ori_Australians).[2] She trained as an orchestral [double bassist](/source/Double_bass) at the [Sydney Conservatorium of Music](/source/Sydney_Conservatorium_of_Music) High School and University, before moving to the [University of Sydney](/source/University_of_Sydney) to study Art History and Psychology.[3]

At the University of Sydney, she performed as part of student comedy group "Project 52", alongside [Steen Raskopoulos](/source/Steen_Raskopoulos) among others.[3] Later, Fricker trained at the [Upright Citizens Brigade](/source/Upright_Citizens_Brigade) in [New York](/source/New_York_City).[4]

## Career

In 2011, Gen Fricker was a National Finalist in the [RAW Comedy Competition](/source/Raw_Comedy).[5] She co-hosted *Summer Up For It* on [FBi Radio](/source/FBi_Radio) with comedian Michael Hing over the summer break in 2011–2012.[6]

Fricker first appeared on [triple j](/source/Triple_J) as a guest on Drive with [Lindsey McDougall](/source/Lindsay_McDougall), on [Sunday Night Safran](/source/Sunday_Night_Safran),[7] and as a writer/performer on [Tom Ballard](/source/Tom_Ballard_(comedian))'s Chatback sketch show. At the end of 2014, she began hosting Overnights, before joining Kyran Wheatley on Weekend Arvos in 2016.[8] In 2017, she took over the Lunch program on [Triple J](/source/Triple_J), formerly presented by [Lewi McKirdy](/source/Lewi_McKirdy),[9] before moving to the Drive program to fill in for [Veronica Milsom](/source/Veronica_Milsom), alongside co-host [Lewis Hobba](/source/Lewis_Hobba).[10] In 2018, she was voted number 9 on Radio Today's 'FM Radio's Top 20 Funniest Women' reader poll.[11]

Fricker has performed stand-up on [Comedy Central](/source/Comedy_Central), [Just for Laughs (Australian TV series)](/source/Just_for_Laughs_(Australian_TV_series)), Sydney Comedy Festival, [New Zealand Comedy Festival](/source/New_Zealand_International_Comedy_Festival) and [Melbourne International Comedy Festival](/source/Melbourne_International_Comedy_Festival). She has appeared on numerous TV shows, including *[Good Game](/source/Good_Game_(TV_program))*, ABC TV New Year's Eve coverage,[12] *[Legally Brown](/source/Legally_Brown)*, *[Dirty Laundry Live](/source/Dirty_Laundry_Live)*, *[Have You Been Paying Attention?](/source/Have_You_Been_Paying_Attention%3F)*, and *[Spicks and Specks](/source/Spicks_and_Specks_(TV_series))*. She was also a writer/performer on *[The Roast](/source/The_Roast)*.[13] In 2014, she was selected by [Reggie Watts](/source/Reggie_Watts) to open for him on his Australian tour.[14] Other credits include the Australian production of [Karen O](/source/Karen_O)'s *Stop The Virgens*,[15] as well as working as an Entertainment contributor for *[The Sydney Morning Herald](/source/The_Sydney_Morning_Herald)*.[16]
