**Gazipur-3** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh).

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Sreepur Upazila](/source/Sreepur_Upazila%2C_Gazipur) and three [union parishads](/source/Union_Parishad) of [Gazipur Sadar Upazila](/source/Gazipur_Sadar_Upazila)—Bhawal Garh, Pirujali, and Mirzapur—integrating the area under a single administrative and electoral boundary.[1]

## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from the Dhaka-23 constituency when the former Dhaka District was split into six districts: [Manikganj](/source/Manikganj_District), [Munshiganj](/source/Munshiganj_District), [Dhaka](/source/Dhaka_District), [Gazipur](/source/Gazipur_District), [Narsingdi](/source/Narsingdi_District), and [Narayanganj](/source/Narayanganj_District).

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[2] The 2008 redistricting added a fifth seat to Gazipur District and altered the boundaries of Gazipur-3.[3]
