# Gay Thompson

**Mary Gabrielle (Gay) Thompson** (born 29 January 1948) was the [Labor](/source/Australian_Labor_Party_(South_Australian_Branch)) member for the [South Australian House of Assembly](/source/South_Australian_House_of_Assembly) [electoral district of Reynell](/source/Electoral_district_of_Reynell) from 1997 to 2014.

Thompson graduated with a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree at the [University of Adelaide](/source/University_of_Adelaide). Before entering politics she was a quality consultant and an official of the [Administrative and Clerical Officers Association](/source/Community_and_Public_Sector_Union).[1] Thompson is and has been actively involved in many community committees and programs.

The [2006 election](/source/2006_South_Australian_legislative_election) saw Thompson increase her margin to 17.6%.

She served as Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees.

Thompson did not re-contest her seat at the [2014 election](/source/2014_South_Australian_state_election).[2]
