Originally from [Western Australian Football League](/source/Western_Australian_Football_League) club [East Perth](/source/East_Perth_Football_Club), Rose was drafted by [Collingwood](/source/Collingwood_Football_Club), with the 38th selection of the [1989 National Draft](/source/1989_VFL_Draft).<ref>{{cite book|last=Lovett, Michael|title=AFL 2004 - The Official Statistical History Of The AFL| publisher=AFL Publishing|year=2004|isbn=0-9580300-5-7}}</ref> He didn't manage to break into the seniors during his time at the club and was traded to Sydney.
