At the 1988 Olympic Games in [Seoul](/source/Seoul), he represented [Great Britain](/source/Great_Britain_at_the_1988_Summer_Olympics) in the 5,000 metres.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.olympedia.org/athletes/68775 |title=Biographical Information |website=Olympedia |access-date=14 June 2025}}</ref> He was the silver medallist in the [5000 metres](/source/5000_metres) at the [1990 European Athletics Championships](/source/1990_European_Athletics_Championships). He was also a team silver medallist with [Tim Hutchings](/source/Tim_Hutchings) at the [1989 IAAF World Cross Country Championships](/source/1989_IAAF_World_Cross_Country_Championships).
