# Gary Pearse

**Gary Keith Pearse** (born 8 February 1953) is an Australian [rugby union](/source/Rugby_union) commentator[1] and former international player.[2]

Pearse was born in [Sydney](/source/Sydney) and educated at [Maroubra Bay High School](/source/Maroubra_Bay_High_School), during which time he played as a centre.[3]

During the late 1970s, Pearse was capped nine times as a flanker for the [Wallabies](/source/Australia_national_rugby_union_team). On the [1975–76 tour of Britain and Ireland](/source/1975%E2%80%9376_Australia_rugby_union_tour_of_Britain,_Ireland_and_the_United_States), he made his Test debut off the bench against Wales in Cardiff, then was the starting flanker in a win over Ireland at Lansdowne Road. He later returned to Europe to play rugby for Italian club [Lazio](/source/SS_Lazio_Rugby_1927) and also played two seasons with [Durban High School Old Boys](/source/Durban_High_School). In his final Test appearance, against the [All Blacks](/source/All_Blacks) in 1978, he scored his fourth Wallabies try in a rare win at Eden Park. He captained the Wallabies twice that tour in uncapped matches.[3]

Pearse is a former Chief Executive of [New South Wales Rugby Union](/source/New_South_Wales_Rugby_Union).[4]
