==History==
Founded in 1852 and edited by [Eduard von Regel](/source/Eduard_von_Regel), the botanist and future director of the [Saint Petersburg Botanical Garden](/source/Saint_Petersburg_Botanical_Garden),<ref name="nat">{{cite journal |title=Eduard Von Regel |url=http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v46/n1177/abs/046060a0.html |journal=Nature |date=1892  |volume=46 |issue=1177 |pages=60–61 |doi=10.1038/046060a0 |bibcode=1892Natur..46...60. |accessdate=8 July 2016}}</ref> the magazine appeared on a monthly basis. It was first published in [Erlangen](/source/Erlangen) by Ferdinand Enke. Eduard von Regel left the editorial post in 1885.<ref name="nat"/>
