==Career==
Finnvold played [college baseball](/source/college_baseball) first at [Palm Beach Community College](/source/Palm_Beach_Community_College) and then for two years at [Florida State University](/source/Florida_State_University) (FSU). In his two years at FSU, Finnvold pitched to a 25–7 [win–loss record](/source/win%E2%80%93loss_record) with a 2.69 [earned run average](/source/earned_run_average) (ERA). He was selected in the sixth round of the [1990 MLB draft](/source/1990_Major_League_Baseball_draft) by the [Boston Red Sox](/source/Boston_Red_Sox). (He was originally selected in the 42nd round of the [1987 MLB draft](/source/1987_Major_League_Baseball_draft) by the [Seattle Mariners](/source/Seattle_Mariners), but did not sign.)

After three years in the Red Sox minor-league system, Finnvold made his major-league debut on May 10, 1994. He made eight starts for the Red Sox before an injury sent him to the [disabled list](/source/disabled_list) and the [players' union strike](/source/1994%E2%80%9395_Major_League_Baseball_strike) ended the season in August.
