**Gangelt** (German pronunciation: [\[ˈɡaŋl̩t\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Standard_German)) is a municipality in the [district of Heinsberg](/source/Heinsberg_(district)), in [North Rhine-Westphalia](/source/North_Rhine-Westphalia), [Germany](/source/Germany). It is on the border with the [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands) and about 10 km east of [Sittard](/source/Sittard) and 10 km south-west of [Heinsberg](/source/Heinsberg).

Its most well-known resident was cartographer Gerard Kremer, better known as [Gerardus Mercator](/source/Gerardus_Mercator), who lived the first five or six years of his life there.
