GameFly Holdings, LLC.[1] Type Private Founders Sean Spector (Co-Founder) Jung Suh (Co-Founder) Headquarters Los Angeles, California, U.S. Key people Jeff Walker (CEO) Tim Hinsley (President)

**GameFly** is a privately held American online [video game](/source/Video_game) [rental](/source/Renting) subscription service that specializes in providing games for [Nintendo](/source/Nintendo), [Sony](/source/Sony_Interactive_Entertainment), and [Microsoft](/source/Xbox_Game_Studios) systems starting from the [sixth generation](/source/Sixth_generation_of_video_game_consoles) onwards. The business model of GameFly is similar to the [DVD-by-mail](/source/DVD-by-mail) subscription service [Netflix](/source/Netflix) and [Blockbuster online](/source/Blockbuster_LLC). GameFly sends games to subscribers for a monthly fee.

## History

In May 2002, Sean Spector and Jung Suh partnered with founding CEO Toby Lenk to start GameFly. GameFly later received [venture capital](/source/Venture_capital) funding from [Sequoia Capital](/source/Sequoia_Capital).[2] In February 2009, GameFly acquired the gaming news and community site [Shacknews](/source/Shacknews), along with its [download](/source/Download) and [streaming video](/source/Streaming_video) sites.[3] In 2009 GameFly sued the U.S. Postal Service alleging the favoring of Netflix and Blockbuster by sorting their DVDs at no charge.[4]

It was reported in February 2011 that GameFly had acquired [MobyGames](/source/MobyGames).[5] Despite filing plans in February 2010 for an [initial public offering](/source/Initial_public_offering), GameFly remains a privately owned company as of 2017.[6] In May 2018, [Electronic Arts](/source/Electronic_Arts) announced that they acquired cloud gaming technology assets and personnel from GameFly (including its [Israeli](/source/Israel) outpost).[7] In April 2014, GameFly sold [Direct2Drive](/source/Direct2Drive) to [AtGames](/source/AtGames).[8][9]
