== Work ==
Gael Stack's work is unique and is sometimes misunderstood. She places letter-like figures onto dark backgrounds.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Gael Stack {{!}} Untitled {{!}} 2017 {{!}} Holly Johnson Gallery |url=https://www.hollyjohnsongallery.com/artist/Gael_Stack/works/2229 |access-date=2022-03-28 |website=www.hollyjohnsongallery.com |language=en}}</ref> She creates a relationship between the two dimensions. Her art is dark, yet many people see the layers behind them. She was a single mother raising two sons and the [feminist](/source/Feminism) movement resonated with her, influencing her "to have her art reflect her reality." However, critic Alison de Lima Greene emphasizes that her art is not just [autobiographical](/source/Autobiography), but it is also very literary, borrowing [motifs](/source/Motif_(visual_arts)) from other paintings and stories. Stack is interested in exploring "language and its limits" and depicting moments in human life through her art. People confused her work for scribbles on a dark background, however, these figures represented parts of her life. She refuses to talk about her work in detail and allows people to interpret and remember them differently.<ref name="mcbride"/>

Her work is collected by the Beaux Art Museum, the [Museum of Fine Arts, Houston](/source/Museum_of_Fine_Arts%2C_Houston), the [Dallas Museum of Art](/source/Dallas_Museum_of_Art), the [San Antonio Museum of Art](/source/San_Antonio_Museum_of_Art), the [El Paso Museum of Art](/source/El_Paso_Museum_of_Art), the [Blanton Museum of Art](/source/Blanton_Museum_of_Art) and the [Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego](/source/Museum_of_Contemporary_Art_San_Diego).
