# Funda Oru

**Funda Oru** (born 10 July 1985) is a [Belgian](/source/Belgium) politician and member of the [Chamber of Representatives](/source/Chamber_of_Representatives_(Belgium)).[1] A member of [Vooruit](/source/Vooruit_(political_party)), she has represented [Limburg](/source/Limburg_(Chamber_of_Representatives_constituency)) since June 2024.

Oru was born on 10 July 1985 in [Heusden-Zolder](/source/Heusden-Zolder) and is of [Turkish origin](/source/Turks_in_Belgium).[1][2] She studied [political sciences](/source/Political_science) at [Vrije Universiteit Brussel](/source/Vrije_Universiteit_Brussel) (2003–2007).[2][3] She worked at the [Socialist Party Different](/source/Socialist_Party_Different) (SP.A)'s research department in [Limburg](/source/Limburg_(Belgium)).[2][3] She became an advisor at the federal Ministry of Development Cooperation and Urban Policy in 2022.[2]

Oru was elected to the municipal council in Heusden-Zolder at the [2012 local election](/source/2012_Belgian_local_elections).[4] She became [Schepen](/source/Schepen) (alderman) for youth, playgrounds, seniors, personnel and poverty reduction in 2014.[5] She was re-elected at the [2018 local election](/source/2018_Belgian_local_elections).[6] She contested the [2014 regional election](/source/2014_Belgian_regional_elections) as the SP.A's 13th placed substitute candidate in [Limburg](/source/Limburg_(Flemish_Parliament_constituency)) and received 6,725 [preference votes](/source/Preference_votes).[7] She contested the [2019 federal election](/source/2019_Belgian_federal_election) as the SP.A's fifth placed candidate in [Limburg](/source/Limburg_(Chamber_of_Representatives_constituency)) but the party won only two seats in the constituency.[8] Oru became vice-chair of [Vooruit](/source/Vooruit_(political_party)) in 2019.[2][3] She was elected to the [Chamber of Representatives](/source/Chamber_of_Representatives_(Belgium)) at the [2024 federal election](/source/2024_Belgian_federal_election).[9]
