**Fulk** is an old European masculine given name, probably deriving from the [Germanic](/source/Germanic_languages) *[folk](/source/Volk_(German_word))* ("people" or "chieftain"). It is cognate with the French [Foulques](/source/Foulques), the German [Volk](/source/Volk_(surname)), the Italian [Fulco](/source/Fulco) and the Swedish [Folke](/source/Folke_(name)), along with other variants such as [Fulke](/source/Fulke), [Foulkes](/source/Foulkes), [Fulko](/source/Fulko), [Folco](/source/Folco), [Falquet or Folquet](/source/Falquet), and so on. However, the above variants are often confused with names derived from the [Latin](/source/Latin) *falco* ("[falcon](/source/Falcon)"), such as [Fawkes](/source/Fawkes), [Falko](/source/Falko), Falkes, and Faulques.
