The **Chinese Fountain** ([Spanish](/source/Spanish_language): *Fuente China*), also known as the **Three Races Fountain** ([Spanish](/source/Spanish_language): *Fuente de las Tres Razas*) is a [fountain](/source/Fountain) [monument](/source/Monument) in the [Park of the Exhibition](/source/Park_of_the_Exhibition) of [Lima](/source/Lima), Peru.

## Overview

The work has a [marble](/source/Marble) sculpture at the top, the work of the Italian sculptor Valmore Gemignani, with three characters that represent the fraternity of the [human races](/source/Human_races), the [white](/source/White_race), the [yellow](/source/Yellow_race) and the [black](/source/Black_race), for which it is also called the *Fountain of the Three Races*.[1] On the sides are two allegories that represent the [Amazon](/source/Amazon_River) and [Yellow rivers](/source/Yellow_River), made in bronze by the sculptor Ettore Graziosi.[2] There are also four representations of the [Raimondi Stele](/source/Raimondi_Stele) from the [Chavín culture](/source/Chav%C3%ADn_culture).[1]

## History

The kiosk replaced by the fountain.

In 1921, during the [second government](/source/History_of_Peru_(1919%E2%80%931930)) of [Augusto B. Leguía](/source/Augusto_B._Legu%C3%ADa), the [Centennial of the Independence of Peru](/source/Centennial_of_the_Independence_of_Peru) was celebrated and many colonies of foreign residents decided to grant gifts in the form of monuments to the Peruvian State. The [Chinese colony](/source/Chinese_Peruvians) joined in by creating a promoting committee led by Santiago Escudero Whu and Aurelio Pow San, important merchants and landowners of [Chinese](/source/Republic_of_China_(1912%E2%80%931949)) origin. The gift chosen was a monumental fountain designed by the architect [Gaetano Moretti](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gaetano_Moretti&action=edit&redlink=1) [[it](https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaetano_Moretti)]. The work was executed in [Italy](/source/Kingdom_of_Italy), in the workshop of Ettore Genovesi.[2]

The first stone was laid in 1921 in the space previously occupied by the so-called "Kiosko de las Palmeras".[3] The fountain was inaugurated on July 28, 1924.[2]
