**Fuchs Ice Piedmont** ([67°10′S 68°40′W / 67.167°S 68.667°W / -67.167; -68.667](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Fuchs_Ice_Piedmont&params=67_10_S_68_40_W_source:GNIS)) is an [ice piedmont](/source/Ice_piedmont) 70 nautical miles (130 km) long, extending in a northeast–southwest direction along the entire west coast of [Adelaide Island](/source/Adelaide_Island). It was first mapped in 1909 by the [French Antarctic Expedition](/source/French_Antarctic_Expedition%2C_1908%E2%80%9310) under [Jean-Baptiste Charcot](/source/Jean-Baptiste_Charcot). It was named by the [Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey](/source/Falkland_Islands_Dependencies_Survey) (FIDS) for [Sir Vivian E. Fuchs](/source/Sir_Vivian_E._Fuchs), FIDS base leader and geologist at [Stonington Island](/source/Stonington_Island) in 1948–49.[1]

Near the southeast end of the piedmont, 3 nmi (5.6 km) west-northwest of the summit of [Mount Ditte](/source/Mount_Ditte), Window Buttress rises to about 800 m (2,600 ft) high. It was named by the [United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee](/source/United_Kingdom_Antarctic_Place-Names_Committee) (UK-APC) in 1982, from the window-like structure near the top of the cliff, which is visible only from the southwest.[2]
