The **Fucha River** is a river on the [Bogotá savanna](/source/Bogot%C3%A1_savanna) and a left tributary of the [Bogotá River](/source/Bogot%C3%A1_River). The river originates in the [Eastern Hills](/source/Eastern_Hills,_Bogot%C3%A1) of the [Colombian](/source/Colombia) capital [Bogotá](/source/Bogot%C3%A1) and flows westward through the city into the Bogotá River. It is one of the three important rivers of the city, together with the [Tunjuelo](/source/Tunjuelo_River) and [Juan Amarillo Rivers](/source/Juan_Amarillo_River).

## Etymology

Fucha is derived from [Muysccubun](/source/Chibcha_language), the indigenous language of the [Muisca](/source/Muisca_people), who inhabited the Bogotá savanna before the [Spanish conquest](/source/Spanish_conquest_of_the_Muisca) and means "her" or "female".[1]

## Description

The Fucha River originates in the locality [San Cristóbal](/source/San_Crist%C3%B3bal,_Bogot%C3%A1) in the [Eastern Hills](/source/Eastern_Hills,_Bogot%C3%A1) of [Bogotá](/source/Bogot%C3%A1) and is named in its upper course Quebrada Manzanares, [San Cristóbal](/source/San_Crist%C3%B3bal_River,_Bogot%C3%A1), [Arzobispo](/source/Arzobispo_River) and [San Francisco River](/source/San_Francisco_River,_Bogot%C3%A1). It flows north from the [Tunjuelo River](/source/Tunjuelo_River) westward and respectively forms the boundary between the localities [Rafael Uribe Uribe](/source/Rafael_Uribe_Uribe) (south) and [Antonio Nariño](/source/Antonio_Nari%C3%B1o,_Bogot%C3%A1) (north) and [Tunjuelito](/source/Tunjuelito) and [Ciudad Bolivar](/source/Ciudad_Bol%C3%ADvar,_Bogot%C3%A1) (south) and [Kennedy](/source/Kennedy,_Bogot%C3%A1) (north) of the Colombian capital and is canalised between the [Carrera Séptima](/source/Carrera_S%C3%A9ptima) and the [Avenida Boyacá](/source/Avenida_Boyac%C3%A1). South of the locality [Bosa](/source/Bosa,_Bogot%C3%A1), the Fucha River flows into the [Bogotá River](/source/Bogot%C3%A1_River). The Fucha River is highly contaminated.[2]
