**Fritchley** is a small village in [Derbyshire](/source/Derbyshire), England, situated to the south of [Crich](/source/Crich) and north of [Ambergate](/source/Ambergate). It falls under the [civil parish](/source/Civil_parish) of Crich. To the east of the village is the ruin of a [windmill](/source/Windmill).[1] Fritchley has an active Congregational Church, and there is a [Quaker meeting house](/source/Quaker_meeting_house) with an active Quaker Meeting. There is a [pub](/source/Pub), the Red Lion,[2] but the post office closed in 2009. The village hosts a steam rally each August.

In 1793, [Fritchley Tunnel](/source/Fritchley_Tunnel), the world's oldest surviving [railway tunnel](/source/Railway_tunnel) was constructed under a public road here on the [Butterley Gangroad](/source/Butterley_Gangroad), the [Butterley Company](/source/Butterley_Company)'s [plateway](/source/Plateway) to carry limestone from Hilt's Quarry at Crich to [kilns](/source/Lime_kiln) on the [Cromford Canal](/source/Cromford_Canal) at [Bullbridge](/source/Bullbridge), by [Benjamin Outram](/source/Benjamin_Outram). The tunnel was scheduled under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act in February 2015.[3][4]

Fritchley was used as one of the filming locations for the hit UK TV series, [Peak Practice](/source/Peak_Practice), which ran from 1993 to 2002.[5]
