'''Friso''' is a legendary king of the [Frisia](/source/Frisia)ns who is said to have ruled around 300 BC. According to [Martinus Hamconius](/source/Martinus_Hamconius) in his 17th-century chronicle ''Frisia seu de viris rebusque illustribus'', and also the 19th-century hoax [Oera Linda Book](/source/Oera_Linda_Book), Friso was a leader of a group of Frisian colonists who had been settled in the [Punjab](/source/Punjab_region) for well over a millennium when they were discovered by [Alexander the Great](/source/Alexander_the_Great). Taking service with Alexander,<ref>{{Cite web |last=Yahya |date=2022-05-24 |title=Mythology, Legends and Fairy Tales of Friesland |url=https://maypoleofwisdom.com/2022/05/24/mythology-legends-and-fairy-tale-of-friesland/ |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Path to the Maypole of Wisdom |language=nl}}</ref> Friso and the colonists eventually found their way back to their ancestral homeland of Frisia, where Friso founded a dynasty of kings.

Another legend has it that a red banner owned by Friso, called the Magnusvaan, is hidden at the church [Almenum](/source/Almenum).<ref>''Jancko Douwama's Geschriften'', Boeck der Partijen p. 50 and 51, in ''Werken uitgegeven door het Friesch Genootschap van Geschied- Oudheid- en Taalkunde'', Leeuwarden, 1849. digital version: [http://www.wumkes.nl/docs/DouwamaJancko_Geschriften.pdf]{{dead link|date=October 2017|bot=InternetArchiveBot|fix-attempted=yes}} p. 126 and 127</ref>
