# Friendly Beaches Reserve

**Friendly Beaches Reserve** is a 140 [ha](/source/Hectare) coastal [nature reserve](/source/Nature_reserve) in eastern [Tasmania](/source/Tasmania), Australia, 190 km north-east of [Hobart](/source/Hobart) and 180 km south-east of [Launceston](/source/Launceston%2C_Tasmania). It is located on the north-east side of the [Freycinet Peninsula](/source/Freycinet_Peninsula), bordering the [Freycinet National Park](/source/Freycinet_National_Park). It is owned and managed by [Bush Heritage Australia](/source/Bush_Heritage_Australia) (BHA), by which it was purchased in 1997.[1]

## Natural values

The reserve contains coastal [heath](/source/Heath_(habitat)), [woodland](/source/Woodland) and a [saltwater](/source/Seawater) [lagoon](/source/Lagoon). It protects one of the few remaining natural beach systems on Tasmania's east coast. The [Tasmanian devil](/source/Tasmanian_devil) has been recorded from the reserve.[1]

## Access

While visitors are welcome to walk along the beach bordering the reserve, access to the reserve itself is prohibited due to the threat of contamination by the soil pathogen [Cinnamon Fungus](/source/Phytophthora_cinnamomi).[1]
