# Frederick Capron

**Frederick William Capron** (1 October 1860 – 18 January 1942) was an [English](/source/English_people) first-class [cricketer](/source/Cricket) and solicitor.

The son of Frederick Lucas Capron, he was born at [Westminster](/source/Westminster) in October 1860. He was educated at both [Tonbridge School](/source/Tonbridge_School) and [Rugby School](/source/Rugby_School),[1] before going up to [Trinity College, Cambridge](/source/Trinity_College,_Cambridge).[2] While studying at Cambridge, Capron made two appearances in [first-class cricket](/source/First-class_cricket) for the [Marylebone Cricket Club](/source/Marylebone_Cricket_Club) against [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire_County_Cricket_Club) at [Lord's](/source/Lord's) in 1881, and [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University_Cricket_Club) at [Fenner's](/source/Fenner's) in 1882.[3] He scored 13 runs in these two matches, with a highest score of 11.[4] After graduating from Cambridge, Capron was admitted to practice as a solicitor in 1886.[2] In 1936, he successfully sued his brother, George and his sister-in-law, for [libel](/source/Defamation) following letters they had written to The Reverend Brian Hunt; Capron was awarded £1,000 in damages.[5][6] Capron died at [Kensington](/source/Kensington) in January 1942.
