**Frederic Wallis** (1854 – 24 June 1928) was an [Anglican](/source/Anglican) priest.

## Biography

Frederic Wallis was born in [Hastings](/source/Hastings),[1] the son of Joseph Wallis, MA.[2] He was educated at [St Paul's](/source/St_Paul's_School_(London)) and [Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge](/source/Gonville_and_Caius_College%2C_Cambridge)[3] (whence he gained his [MA Cantab](/source/Master_of_Arts_(Oxbridge_and_Dublin))). [Ordained](/source/Ordained) in 1876,[4] he became [Dean](/source/Dean_(religion)) of [Caius](/source/Gonville_and_Caius_College%2C_Cambridge) in 1878 and a [Lecturer](/source/Lecturer) in [Divinity](/source/Divinity_(academic_discipline)) [Lecturer](/source/Lecturer) at Cambridge.[5] In 1895 he was appointed to the colonial [episcopate](/source/Episcopate) as [Bishop of Wellington](/source/Bishop_of_Wellington),[6] a post he held for 16 years before retirement in 1911. On his return to the UK, he was [Archdeacon of Wilts](/source/Archdeacon_of_Wilts) (1911–1912), a Canon at [Salisbury Cathedral](/source/Salisbury_Cathedral) (1913 onwards) and [Archdeacon of Sherborne](/source/Archdeacon_of_Sherborne) (1916–1919).[7] Having become a [Doctor of Divinity](/source/Doctor_of_Divinity) (DD), he died in [Bournemouth](/source/Bournemouth),[8] and is buried at [Littlebredy](/source/Littlebredy).[9]

## Legacy

A memorial [labyrinth](/source/Labyrinth) named in honor of Wallis and his wife Margaret is located at Hutt Hospital in [Wellington](/source/Wellington), [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand).[10]
