# Freden

**Freden** (ˈfʁeːdn̩) is a village and a municipality in the [district of Hildesheim](/source/Hildesheim_(district)), in [Lower Saxony](/source/Lower_Saxony), [Germany](/source/Germany). It is situated on the river [Leine](/source/Leine), approx. 25 km south of [Hildesheim](/source/Hildesheim). Since 1 November 2016, the former municipalities [Everode](/source/Everode), [Landwehr](/source/Landwehr,_Lower_Saxony) and [Winzenburg](/source/Winzenburg) are part of the municipality Freden.[2]

Freden was the seat of the former *[Samtgemeinde](/source/Samtgemeinde)* ("collective municipality") [Freden](/source/Freden_(Samtgemeinde)).
