# Fred Rothwell

**Donald Fred Rothwell** (born October 8, 1952) is an American former professional [football](/source/American_football) player who was a [center](/source/Center_(American_football)) for one season with the [Detroit Lions](/source/Detroit_Lions) of the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL) in 1974.[1] He played [college football](/source/College_football) for the [Kansas State Wildcats](/source/Kansas_State_Wildcats_football) and was selected by the Lions in the 13th round of the [1974 NFL draft](/source/1974_NFL_draft).

## Professional career

Rothwell was drafted by the [Detroit Lions](/source/Detroit_Lions) in the [1974 NFL draft](/source/1974_NFL_draft). Rothwell played 14 games for the Lions in the [1974 season](/source/1974_Detroit_Lions_season). He was released by Detroit before the start of the next season.

Rothwell was also selected by the [World Football League](/source/World_Football_League)'s [Jacksonville Sharks](/source/Jacksonville_Sharks_(WFL)) in the [1974 WFL Draft](/source/1974_WFL_Draft), but he never signed with the team.

## Post-playing career

Since his retirement, Rothwell has worked as a financial representative for [Northwestern Mutual](/source/Northwestern_Mutual) in [Topeka, Kansas](/source/Topeka,_Kansas).[citation needed]
