**Fred-René Øvergård Buljo** (born 6 February 1988), better known as simply **Fred Buljo**, is a Norwegian [Sámi](/source/S%C3%A1mi_people) rapper and [joiker](/source/Joik). Buljo is a member of the Sámi rap duo Duolva Duottar, consisting of Buljo and Ole Mahtte Gaup, established in 2007. In 2008, the group made a breakthrough when they participated in *[Norske Talenter](/source/Norske_Talenter_(series_1))* and reached the final.[1] He also is one of members of the [supergroup](/source/Supergroup_(music)) [KEiiNO](/source/KEiiNO), alongside [Alexandra Rotan](/source/Alexandra_Rotan) and [Tom Hugo](/source/Tom_Hugo). The group was created in late 2018 in preparation for the participation in [Melodi Grand Prix 2019](/source/Melodi_Grand_Prix_2019),[2] which they won and so were selected to represent [Norway](/source/Norway_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest) in the [Eurovision Song Contest 2019](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2019), finishing in sixth place.

As well as being a musician, Buljo also has served in the [Sami Parliament](/source/S%C3%A1mi_Parliament_of_Norway) for the party [Árja](/source/%C3%81rja), first as a deputy from 2013 to 2016, and as an [MP](/source/Member_of_parliament) and [parliamentary leader](/source/Parliamentary_leader) in the period 2016–2017.

## Musical career

Since then, he has toured in the [Nordic countries](/source/Nordic_countries) and [Russia](/source/Russia),[3] and has worked both as a songwriter and as a performer. In 2019, he participated in the [Melodi Grand Prix](/source/Melodi_Grand_Prix_2019) as part of the group [KEiiNO](/source/KEiiNO) and won with the song "[Spirit in the Sky](/source/Spirit_in_the_Sky_(KEiiNO_song))".[3][4][5]

## Political career

Buljo has also served as representative on the [Sámi Parliament of Norway](/source/S%C3%A1mi_Parliament_of_Norway) for the party [Árja](/source/%C3%81rja), first as a deputy from 2013 to 2016, and as an [MP](/source/Member_of_parliament) and [parliamentary leader](/source/Parliamentary_leader) in the period 2016–2017.[6]

## Awards

In December 2019, Buljo beat [Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen](/source/Ella_Marie_H%C3%A6tta_Isaksen) with 46.3% of the votes over her 32.87% to win [Ávvir's](/source/%C3%81vvir) [Saami of the Year](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Saami_of_the_Year&action=edit&redlink=1) Award.[7][8]
