**Franz Xaverius Senn** (19 March 1831 – 31 January 1884[1]) was an Austrian [Catholic priest](/source/Priesthood_in_the_Catholic_Church) and [mountaineer](/source/Mountaineering) who was among the first to promote alpinism and foster the early development of mountaineering in [Tyrol](/source/County_of_Tyrol). The [Franz Senn Hut](/source/Franz_Senn_Hut) and the [Sennkogel](/source/Sennkogel) are named in his honour.
