**Frank Schaffer** (born 23 October 1958 in [Stalinstadt](/source/Eisenh%C3%BCttenstadt) (today Eisenhüttenstadt), [Bezirk Frankfurt](/source/Bezirk_Frankfurt)) is an [East German](/source/East_Germany) retired [athlete](/source/Sport_of_athletics) who specialised in the [400 metres](/source/400_metres).

He won the bronze medal in the 400 metres at the [1980 Summer Olympics](/source/1980_Summer_Olympics) in a lifetime best time of 44.87 seconds. He also assisted the East German team of [Klaus Thiele](/source/Klaus_Thiele), [Andreas Knebel](/source/Andreas_Knebel) and [Volker Beck](/source/Volker_Beck_(athlete)) in winning the silver medal in the [4 × 400 metres relay](/source/4_%C3%97_400_metres_relay).

His personal best time of 44.87 seconds ranks him eighth among German 400 m sprinters, behind [Thomas Schönlebe](/source/Thomas_Sch%C3%B6nlebe), [Erwin Skamrahl](/source/Erwin_Skamrahl), [Ingo Schultz](/source/Ingo_Schultz), [Karl Honz](/source/Karl_Honz), [Hartmut Weber](/source/Hartmut_Weber), [Mathias Schersing](/source/Mathias_Schersing) and [Jens Carlowitz](/source/Jens_Carlowitz).[1]
