# Franco Micalizzi

Italian composer and conductor

**Franco Micalizzi** (born 21 December 1939 in Rome) is an Italian composer and conductor, best known for his scores in [Poliziotteschi](/source/Poliziotteschi) films.

His first success was for the musical score of the [Spaghetti Western](/source/Spaghetti_Western) *[They Call Me Trinity](/source/They_Call_Me_Trinity)*, in 1970. He had previously collaborated on composing with [Roberto Pregadio](/source/Roberto_Pregadio) the famous whistled western score for the 1969 film *[The Forgotten Pistolero](/source/The_Forgotten_Pistolero)* (original: *Il Pistolero dell'Ave Maria*).[1] His main theme for the 1976 poliziottesco film *[A Special Cop in Action](/source/A_Special_Cop_in_Action)* was used in [the soundtrack](/source/Death_Proof_(soundtrack)) of [Quentin Tarantino](/source/Quentin_Tarantino)'s *[Death Proof](/source/Death_Proof)*.[2]

His other scores include *[The Last Snows of Spring](/source/The_Last_Snows_of_Spring)*, *[Beyond the Door](/source/Beyond_the_Door_(1974_film))* and *[The Last Hunter](/source/The_Last_Hunter)*. He often worked with [Umberto Lenzi](/source/Umberto_Lenzi), scoring his movies *[Syndicate Sadists](/source/Syndicate_Sadists)*, *[Rome Armed to the Teeth](/source/Rome_Armed_to_the_Teeth)*, *[Violent Naples](/source/Napoli_violenta)*, *[The Cynic, the Rat and the Fist](/source/The_Cynic%2C_the_Rat_and_the_Fist)*, *[Brothers Till We Die](/source/Brothers_Till_We_Die)*, *[The Greatest Battle](/source/The_Greatest_Battle)*, *[From Corleone to Brooklyn](/source/From_Corleone_to_Brooklyn)*, *[Black Demons](/source/D%C3%A8moni_3)* and *[Mean Tricks](/source/Mean_Tricks)*.

In 1984 he founded the group "The Micalizzi Family" with his sons Cristiano and Alessandro.[3]

His piece "The Puzzle" appears in the soundtrack of *[Curb Your Enthusiasm](/source/Curb_Your_Enthusiasm#Eyeball_to_eyeball)* and a slow tempo excerpt of it, rearranged for clarinet and bassoon, is often used in the series as the "stare" theme.[4]
