[Brigadier General](/source/Brigadier-general_(United_Kingdom)) **Francis Leycester Festing**, [CB](/source/Companion_of_the_Order_of_the_Bath), [CMG](/source/Companion_of_the_Order_of_St_Michael_and_St_George) (25 July 1877 – 17 October 1948) was a senior officer in the [Royal Flying Corps](/source/Royal_Flying_Corps) during the [First World War](/source/First_World_War). Promoted to major on 1 September 1915,[1] just over two years later he received a temporary promotion to brigadier general on 10 October 1917[2] and took up post as the Deputy Adjutant-General at the headquarters of the Royal Flying Corps in France.

Festing was the son of Major General [Sir Francis Festing](/source/Francis_Worgan_Festing). He married Charlotte Katharine Grindall Festing (his second cousin) and, in 1902, they had one child, [Francis Wogan Festing](/source/Francis_Wogan_Festing), who rose to the rank of [field marshal](/source/Field_marshal_(United_Kingdom)) in the British Army.[3]
