The **Fox Lake Subdivision** is a railway line in the state of [Illinois](/source/Illinois) in the United States. It runs 17.5 miles (28.2 km) from a junction with the [C&M Subdivision](/source/C%26M_Subdivision) of the [CPKC Railway](/source/Canadian_Pacific_Kansas_City) at [Rondout, Illinois](/source/Rondout%2C_Illinois), to a junction with the [Wisconsin and Southern Railroad](/source/Wisconsin_and_Southern_Railroad) at [Fox Lake, Illinois](/source/Fox_Lake%2C_Illinois). [Metra](/source/Metra), the commuter rail authority for the [Chicago](/source/Chicago) area, owns and operates the line. The line hosts [Milwaukee District North Line](/source/Milwaukee_District_North_Line) commuter trains.[1] The entire line is single tracked, with the exception of a [passing siding](/source/Passing_loop) at [Grayslake](/source/Grayslake_station). The line is part of the former [Milwaukee Road](/source/Milwaukee_Road) route between Chicago and [Madison, Wisconsin](/source/Madison%2C_Wisconsin). The [Wisconsin & Southern](/source/Wisconsin_%26_Southern) owns the portion between Fox Lake and [Janesville, Wisconsin](/source/Janesville%2C_Wisconsin), and has [trackage rights](/source/Trackage_rights) over the Metra portion.[2] The tracks north of Metra's Fox Lake station host exclusively freight traffic.
