# Four Heatons

The **Four Heatons** are four neighbourhoods, [Heaton Chapel](/source/Heaton_Chapel), [Heaton Mersey](/source/Heaton_Mersey), [Heaton Moor](/source/Heaton_Moor) and [Heaton Norris](/source/Heaton_Norris),[1] which form a [suburban](/source/Suburb) area of [Stockport](/source/Stockport) in [North West England](/source/North_West_England). North of the [River Mersey](/source/River_Mersey), they were historically in [Lancashire](/source/Lancashire).[1]

It is a commuter zone, with [greenbelt](/source/Green_belt) and a [conservation area](/source/Protected_area),[1] and is coterminous with the [SK4 postcode district](/source/SK_postcode_area).[2]

The opening of railway stations, at [Heaton Norris](/source/Heaton_Norris_railway_station) in 1840 and [Heaton Chapel](/source/Heaton_Chapel_railway_station) in 1853,[3] resulted in the [suburbanisation](/source/Suburbanization) of the Four Heatons.

The area is home to various retailers, as well as bars, delis, independent music venues and a privately owned single-screen cinema.[1][4][5]
