# Foto language

Not to be confused with [Foto dialect of Ngwe](/source/Ngwe_language).

**Foto** (Bafoto) is an extinct [Bantu language](/source/Bantu_language) of the [Democratic Republic of Congo](/source/Democratic_Republic_of_Congo). [Malcolm Guthrie](/source/Malcolm_Guthrie) classified it close to [Mongo](/source/Mongo_language). However, Mongo and its closest relatives were split between the [Bangi–Ntomba](/source/Bangi%E2%80%93Ntomba_languages) and [Soko–Kele](/source/Soko%E2%80%93Kele_languages) branches of Bantu in Nurse (2003), and it is not clear where Foto belongs.
