'''Forsnes Chapel''' ({{langx|no|Forsnes kapell}}) is a [parish church](/source/parish_church) of the [Church of Norway](/source/Church_of_Norway) in [Hitra Municipality](/source/Hitra_Municipality) in [Trøndelag](/source/Tr%C3%B8ndelag) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). It is located in the village of [Forsnes](/source/Forsnes) on the southwestern coast of the [island of Hitra](/source/Hitra_(island)). It is one of the churches for the ''Kvenvær og Sandstad'' [parish](/source/parish) which is part of the [Orkdal prosti](/source/Orkdal_prosti) ([deanery](/source/deanery)) in the [Diocese of Nidaros](/source/Diocese_of_Nidaros). The red, wooden church was built in a [long church](/source/long_church) design in 1935 using materials from the [Old Kvenvær Church](/source/Old_Kvenv%C3%A6r_Church) which had been moved here and rebuilt by the builder M.O. Gunther. The church seats about 164 people.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Forsnes kapell |url=https://kirkesok.no/kirke/161700701 |publisher=Kirkesøk: Kirkebyggdatabasen |language=Norwegian |accessdate=2018-02-18}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |title=Oversikt over Nåværende Kirker |url=http://www.kirkekonsulenten.no/kirker.htm |publisher=KirkeKonsulenten.no |language=Norwegian |accessdate=2018-02-18}}</ref>

==History==

===Old Kvenvær Church===
[Kvenvær Church](/source/Kvenv%C3%A6r_Church) was historically located on the small island of Hakkebuøya off the western shores of the village of [Kvenvær](/source/Kvenv%C3%A6r) on the main island of [Hitra](/source/Hitra_(island)) where it was established in the mid-15th century. A new church was built there in 1763 which was in use there until 1909 when the new Kvenvær Church was built in the village of [Kvenvær](/source/Kvenv%C3%A6r) on the main island of Hitra in a more easily accessible location.<ref name="kms" /><ref name="NK" />

The old Kvenvær Church stood unused from 1909 until 1934 when the 171-year-old building was deconstructed and moved to the village of [Forsnes](/source/Forsnes) where it was rebuilt and renamed as the ''Forsnes Chapel''. The builder M.O. Gunther from [Hommelvik](/source/Hommelvik) led the reconstruction. The newly rebuilt chapel was [consecrated](/source/consecrated) on 17 October 1935.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Forsnes kirke |url=http://www.orkdalsmenighetene.no/forsnes/index.htm |publisher=Orkdals prosti |language=Norwegian |accessdate=2010-12-30}}</ref><ref name="kms">{{Cite web |title=Forsnes kirkested |url=http://www.kulturminnesok.no/kulturminnesok/kulturminne/?LOK_ID=84183 |access-date=2021-07-06 |publisher=[Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage](/source/Norwegian_Directorate_for_Cultural_Heritage) |language=Norwegian}}</ref><ref name="NK">{{Cite web |title=Forsnes kapell |url=https://www.norske-kirker.net/home/trondelag/forsnes-kapell/ |access-date=2021-07-06 |website=Norges-Kirker.no |language=Norwegian}}</ref>
