***Forestiera*** is a genus of [flowering plants](/source/Flowering_plant) in the [olive](/source/Olive) family, [Oleaceae](/source/Oleaceae). Members of the genus are often called **swampprivets**.[3][4] Most are [shrubs](/source/Shrub).

## Species

There are about 20 species, native to Mexico, [Central America](/source/Central_America), the [West Indies](/source/West_Indies), Ecuador and the southern half of the United States.[5][6] [Phylogenetics](/source/Phylogenetics) indicate that *Forestiera* is sister to *[Hesperelaea](/source/Hesperelaea)*, an extinct North American lineage.[7]
