'''For Church''' ({{langx|no|For kirke}}) is a [parish church](/source/parish_church) of the [Church of Norway](/source/Church_of_Norway) in [Steinkjer Municipality](/source/Steinkjer_Municipality) in [Trøndelag](/source/Tr%C3%B8ndelag) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). It is located in [Stod](/source/Stod%2C_Tr%C3%B8ndelag), just southwest of the village of [Binde](/source/Binde%2C_Norway). It is the church for the Stod [parish](/source/parish) which is part of the [Stiklestad prosti](/source/Stiklestad_prosti) ([deanery](/source/deanery)) in the [Diocese of Nidaros](/source/Diocese_of_Nidaros). The white, plastered stone church was built in a [long church](/source/long_church) style in 1846 using plans drawn up by the [architect](/source/architect) [Hans Linstow](/source/Hans_Linstow) (1787–1851). The church seats about 400 people.<ref>{{Cite web |title=For kyrkje, Stod |url=https://kirkesok.no/kirke/170200501 |publisher=Kirkesøk: Kirkebyggdatabasen |access-date=2018-04-10}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |title=Oversikt over Nåværende Kirker |url=http://www.kirkekonsulenten.no/kirker.htm |publisher=KirkeKonsulenten.no |language=Norwegian |access-date=2018-04-10}}</ref>

==History==
The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1533, but it was not new that year. The first church at For was likely a [stave church](/source/stave_church) and it was located about {{convert|100|m}} east of the present church building (where the main [parsonage](/source/parsonage) now stands). In 1648, a new wooden church was built about {{convert|100|m}} west of the old church. The new church was built with a tall tower and spire. It was [consecrate](/source/consecrate)d in 1650 by [Erik Bredal](/source/Erik_Bredal_(bishop)) (1608–1672), the [Bishop](/source/Bishop) of the [Diocese of Nidaros](/source/Diocese_of_Nidaros).<ref>{{Cite web |last=Trygve Lysaker |title=Erik Bredal |url=https://nbl.snl.no/Erik_Bredal |publisher=Norsk biografisk leksikon |access-date=2018-09-01}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |title=For (Stod) middelalderske kirkested |url=http://www.kulturminnesok.no/kulturminnesok/kulturminne/?LOK_ID=89029 |access-date=2021-05-23 |publisher=[Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage](/source/Norwegian_Directorate_for_Cultural_Heritage) |language=Norwegian}}</ref>

In 1814, this church served as an [election church](/source/election_church) ({{langx|no|valgkirke}}).<ref name="lhw">{{Cite web |title=Valgkirkene |url=https://lokalhistoriewiki.no/wiki/Valgkirkene |access-date=2021-05-23 |website=LokalHistorieWiki.no |language=Norwegian}}</ref> Together with more than 300 other parish churches across Norway, it was a polling station for elections to the 1814 [Norwegian Constituent Assembly](/source/Norwegian_Constituent_Assembly) which wrote the [Constitution of Norway](/source/Constitution_of_Norway). This was Norway's first national elections. Each [church parish](/source/prestegjeld) was a constituency that elected people called "electors" who later met together in each county to elect the representatives for the assembly that was to meet at [Eidsvoll Manor](/source/Eidsvoll_Manor) later that year.<ref name="lhw" /><ref>{{Cite web |title=Om valgene |url=http://1814.arkivverket.no/#about-elections |access-date=2021-05-23 |website=Valgene i 1814 |publisher=Arkivverket |language=Norwegian |archive-date=2021-06-24 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210624205923/http://1814.arkivverket.no/#about-elections |url-status=dead }}</ref>

After about 200 years of use, the church was in poor condition and the congregation wanted the old church torn down. The service held on 20 July 1845 was the last time the old church was used before its demolition. After clearing the site, a new stone, [long church](/source/long_church) was built, a few meters south of the location of the old building. The new church was designed by the [architect](/source/architect) [Hans Linstow](/source/Hans_Linstow) - the only church in [Nord-Trøndelag](/source/Nord-Tr%C3%B8ndelag) to be designed by him. It was [consecrate](/source/consecrate)d on 15 October 1846. The old church's [pulpit](/source/pulpit), organ, and [baptismal font](/source/baptismal_font) were installed in the new church. The altarpiece which dated to 1757 was also retained while a new altar was installed for the new church.<ref>{{Cite web |title=For kirke |url=https://lokalhistoriewiki.no/For_kirke |publisher=lokalhistoriewiki.no |access-date=2018-09-01}}</ref><ref name="SL">{{Cite web |title=For kirke |url=http://www.steinkjerleksikonet.no/index.php?artikkel=1156 |publisher=Steinkjerleksikonet |language=Norwegian |access-date=2011-07-31}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |last=Jens Christian Eldal |title=Hans Ditlev Frantz Linstow |url=https://nbl.snl.no/Hans_Ditlev_Frantz_Linstow |publisher=Norsk biografisk leksikon |access-date=2018-09-01}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |title=Stod kirkested |url=https://kulturminnesok.no/minne/?queryString=https://data.kulturminne.no/askeladden/lokalitet/85571 |access-date=2021-05-23 |publisher=[Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage](/source/Norwegian_Directorate_for_Cultural_Heritage) |language=Norwegian}}</ref>

In 1871, the relatively new church was renovated. The old dome tower on the roof was removed along with the whole roof. The roof line was restructured and a new entry porch and a new tower was built above the entrance. Rasmus Overrein led the construction. The pews were rebuilt inside and the balcony seating was removed.<ref name="SL" />
