'''Football for Hope''' was a [FIFA](/source/FIFA)-sponsored [football](/source/association_football) match played between the [Ronaldinho](/source/Ronaldinho) XI team and the [Shevchenko](/source/Andriy_Shevchenko) XI team on 15 February 2005 at the [Camp Nou](/source/Camp_Nou) in [Barcelona](/source/Barcelona) in support of the [relief effort](/source/Humanitarian_response_to_the_2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake) after the [2004 Indian Ocean tsunami disaster](/source/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake). 

Organised by FIFA and [UEFA](/source/UEFA) in consultation with the [Royal Spanish Football Federation](/source/Royal_Spanish_Football_Federation), and with support from [FC Barcelona](/source/FC_Barcelona), who provided their stadium and staff free of charge, this benefit match for the victims of the tsunami saw an XI led by Ronaldinho, the 2004 [FIFA World Player of the Year](/source/FIFA_World_Player_of_the_Year), beat a team captained by Andriy Shevchenko, the 2004 [European Footballer of the Year](/source/European_Footballer_of_the_Year), by six [goal](/source/Goal_(sport))s to three.

FIFA hoped to raise £7 million in support of the tsunami victims, around a third through the game itself. All proceeds from the Football For Hope match went to the FIFA/Asian Football Confederation Tsunami Solidarity Fund.

==The match==
The game itself, which was watched by some 35,000 spectators, was a typical charity affair with a predictable pace, although the fans were entertained by a feast of goals. The World XI (Ronaldinho) won the Europe XI (Shevchenko) by 6-3.

[Cameroon](/source/Cameroon_national_football_team)'s [Samuel Eto'o](/source/Samuel_Eto'o) and [Senegal](/source/Senegal_national_football_team)'s [Henri Camara](/source/Henri_Camara) both scored two goals, which, along with strikes from [Ronaldinho](/source/Ronaldinho) and the [South Korean](/source/South_Korea_national_football_team) [Cha Du-ri](/source/Cha_Du-ri), helped the FIFA World Player of the Year's team to victory. [Alessandro Del Piero](/source/Alessandro_Del_Piero), [Gianfranco Zola](/source/Gianfranco_Zola) and [David Suazo](/source/David_Suazo) scored for Andriy Shevchenko's side.
