**Fonoifua** is an island in [Tonga](/source/Tonga). Among neighbouring islands are [Kelefesia](/source/Kelefesia), [Nukutula](/source/Nukutula), [Tonumea](/source/Tonumea), [Nomuka](/source/Nomuka), [Telekitonga](/source/Telekitonga).

## History

Fonoifua was heavily affected by the [2022 Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai eruption and tsunami](/source/2022_Hunga_Tonga%E2%80%93Hunga_Ha'apai_eruption_and_tsunami).[1] *[The Guardian](/source/The_Guardian)* and *[ITV News](/source/ITV_News)* reported that all structures on the island were destroyed except for two houses.[2][3]

## Demographics

At the 2021 census the island had 69 inhabitants.[4]
