# Folger Rock

**Folger Rock** ([62.26228°S 59.23058°W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=-62.26228_-59.23058)) is a rock lying 2.5 nautical miles (5 km) north of [Harmony Point](/source/Harmony_Point), [Nelson Island](/source/Nelson_Island_(South_Shetland_Islands)), in the [South Shetland Islands](/source/South_Shetland_Islands). It was named by the [UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee](/source/UK_Antarctic_Place-Names_Committee) in 1961 for [Tristan Folger](/source/Tristan_Folger), the Master of the American sealing vessel *William and Nancy* from [Nantucket](/source/Nantucket), which visited the South Shetland Islands in 1820–21, operating from nearby [Harmony Cove](/source/Harmony_Cove).[1]
