The first Flunch branch opened in the Englos shopping centre on the outskirts of [Lille](/source/Lille) in 1971.

== Controversies ==
In 2006, Flunch lost a legal dispute concerning its use of a modified version of the song <nowiki>''</nowiki>''On va s'aimer''<nowiki>''</nowiki>, written by [Gilbert Montagné](/source/Gilbert_Montagn%C3%A9) and [Didier Barbelivien](/source/Didier_Barbelivien). The restaurant chain had adapted the refrain with the lyrics <nowiki>''</nowiki>''On va fluncher''<nowiki>''</nowiki> as part of an advertising campaign. The legal proceedings began in 1997 and lasted nine years. After two appeals to the [French Court of Cassation](/source/Court_of_Cassation_(France)), the authors ultimately prevailed on 5 December 2006.
