**Flora-On** is a portal coordinated by the [Portuguese Botanical Society](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portuguese_Botanical_Society&action=edit&redlink=1) containing photographic, geographical, morphological and ecological information for all [vascular](/source/Vascular_plant) plant species in [Portugal](/source/Portugal) (both in the [mainland](/source/Mainland_Portugal), [Azores](/source/Azores) and [Madeira](/source/Madeira)).

The portal was created in 2012 by a group of young biologists within the Faculty of Sciences of the [University of Lisbon](/source/University_of_Lisbon) and has been in constant development since. Work is voluntarily done by botanists, naturalists and researchers.[1][2] The project does not depend on or receive funding from any institution or company and is purely based on volunteer work.[3]

The main aim of the project is to provide the specialized and non-specialized public with free, simple and intuitive access to scientific information on plants that occur in Portugal.[3]

Plants are classified through various criteria: taxa, [morfological characteristics](/source/Morphology_(biology)), [endemism](/source/Endemism), abundance, time of [floration](/source/Floration), geographical location (by grid, [municipalities](/source/Municipalities_of_Portugal), [Protected areas](/source/Protected_areas_of_Portugal), etc...), some by [conservation status](/source/Conservation_status).[3]

For each species or subspecies, there are bioclimatic graphs that apply hardiness, precipitation, thermicity, altitude, continentality, ombrothermic index, among others.[3] A link to [Flora Iberica](/source/Flora_Iberica)'s article for the designated taxon is also provided for further, in depth morphological description.[3]
