'''''Flindersia''''' is a genus of 17 species of small to large trees in the family [Rutaceae](/source/Rutaceae). They have simple or [pinnate](/source/Pinnation) leaves, flowers arranged in [panicle](/source/panicle)s at or near the ends of branchlets and fruit that is a woody [capsule](/source/Capsule_(botany)) containing winged seeds. They grow naturally in Australia, the [Moluccas](/source/Moluccas), New Guinea and New Caledonia.

==Description==
Trees in the genus ''Flindersia'' have simple or pinnate leaves with up to sixteen leaflets, the side leaflets arranged in opposite pairs. The flowers are arranged in panicles at the ends of branchlets or in upper leaf axils and have five [sepal](/source/sepal)s and five [petal](/source/petal)s. The flowers are [bisexual](/source/Plant_reproductive_morphology), or sometimes only have [stamen](/source/stamen)s. There are five stamens opposite the sepals, alternating with five [staminode](/source/staminode)s. The [ovary](/source/Ovary_(botany)) has five [locules](/source/Ovary_(botany)) and is more or less spherical with five shallow lobes and there are between four and six [ovule](/source/ovule)s in each locule. The fruit is a woody capsule splitting into five and contains brown, winged seeds.<ref name="RBGS">{{cite web |last1=Porteners |first1=M. ==Taxonomy==
The genus ''Flindersia'' was first formally described in 1814 by [Robert Brown](/source/Robert_Brown_(Scottish_botanist_from_Montrose)) in [Matthew Flinders](/source/Matthew_Flinders)' sea voyage journal ''[A Voyage to Terra Australis](/source/A_Voyage_to_Terra_Australis)''.<ref name=APNI>{{cite web|title=''Flindersia''|url=https://id.biodiversity.org.au/instance/apni/507771 |website=[Australian Plant Name Index](/source/Australian_Plant_Name_Index) (APNI) |publisher=Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research, [Australian Government](/source/Australian_Government) |access-date=15 July 2020}}</ref>
