**Flinders Chase** is a locality in the Australian state of [South Australia](/source/South_Australia) located in south-western [Kangaroo Island](/source/Kangaroo_Island) overlooking the body of water known in [Australia](/source/Australia) as the [Southern Ocean](/source/Southern_Ocean) and by international authorities as the [Great Australian Bight](/source/Great_Australian_Bight).[11][12] It is located about 210 kilometres (130 miles) south-west of the state capital of [Adelaide](/source/Adelaide_city_centre).[9]

Its boundaries were created in 2002 in respect to “the long established name” which is reported to be derived from the [Flinders Chase National Park](/source/Flinders_Chase_National_Park).[2] Its northern boundary is formed by the [Playford Highway](/source/Playford_Highway) while its eastern boundary is formed by the West End Highway in the northern and by the Sanderson Fire Access Track in the south.[2]

The principal land use within the locality is [conservation](/source/Conservation_(ethic)) with its full extent being occupied by the following [protected areas](/source/Protected_area) - the southern part of the Flinders Chase National Park in the south and the [Ravine des Casoars Wilderness Protection Area](/source/Ravine_des_Casoars_Wilderness_Protection_Area) in the north.[2][13]

The locality includes the five following [state heritage places](/source/South_Australian_Heritage_Register) - [David Kilpatrick's Grave](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Kilpatrick%27s_Grave&action=edit&redlink=1) being the burial place of a passenger who survived the loss of the [barque](/source/Barque), [Loch Sloy](/source/Loch_Sloy) in 1899 but died after reaching land, the [Rocky River Homestead](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rocky_River_Homestead&action=edit&redlink=1), the [Cape du Couedic Lighthouse](/source/Cape_du_Couedic_Lighthouse), the [Cape du Couedic Lighthouse Keepers' Cottages, Stable and Store](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cape_du_Couedic_Lighthouse_Keepers%27_Cottages,_Stable_and_Store&action=edit&redlink=1), and the [Weirs Cove Jetty, Funnelway and Store Ruin](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Weirs_Cove_Jetty,_Funnelway_and_Store_Ruin&action=edit&redlink=1).[14][15][16][17][18]
