**Anton Flettner, Flugzeugbau GmbH** was a German [helicopter](/source/Helicopter) and [autogyro](/source/Autogyro) manufacturer during [World War II](/source/World_War_II), founded by [Anton Flettner](/source/Anton_Flettner).[1]

Anton Flettner's interest in [aerodynamics](/source/Aerodynamics) (specifically the [Magnus effect](/source/Magnus_effect), which produces a force from a cylinder rotating in a fluid flow) also led him to invent the [Flettner rotor](/source/Flettner_rotor) which he used to power a [Flettner ship](/source/Flettner_ship) which crossed the Atlantic, and the [Flettner ventilator](/source/Flettner_ventilator) which is still widely used as a cooling device for buses, vans and other commercial vehicles and which is based upon the [Savonius principle](/source/Savonius_principle).
