==History==
Fitzherbert developed from [James Prendergast](/source/James_Prendergast_(farmer))'s Tiritea Estate in 1871. In 1926 John Batchelar sold his adjacent estate to the Palmerston North Borough Council for the establishment of an agricultural college. The [Massey Agricultural College](/source/Massey_Agricultural_College) was established and later became [Massey University](/source/Massey_University).<ref name="turitea">{{cite magazine|magazine=Heritage New Zealand|publisher=Heritage New Zealand|issue=180|date=Autumn 2026|issn=1175-9615|editor-first1=Anna|editor-last1=Dunlop|pages=10–11|title=Farming heart|first1=Kayla|last1=Campbell}}</ref>
