'''First Army''' was a home service formation of the [British Army during the First World War](/source/British_Army_during_the_First_World_War).

First Army was formed on 5 August 1914 under the command of [Central Force](/source/Central_Force). It was based at [Bedford](/source/Bedford) and [Sir Bruce Hamilton](/source/Bruce_Hamilton_(British_Army_officer)) was the Army Commander. Units attached to the Army were the [Highland Division](/source/Highland_Division) and the [Highland Mounted Brigade](/source/Highland_Mounted_Brigade).

First Army kept its name even after the establishment of a [First Army](/source/First_Army_(United_Kingdom)) in the [British Expeditionary Force](/source/British_Expeditionary_Force_(1914)) in December 1914. It was disbanded on 12 March 1916<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.1914-1918.net/armies.htm|title=The British Armies of 1914–1918|access-date=14 June 2015}}</ref> and reformed as [Northern Army](/source/Northern_Army_(Home_Forces)).
