Find sources: "Fire warning" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR (November 2025) (Learn how and when to remove this message) Fire statement indicating an observed wildfire in the warned area A **fire warning** ([SAME](/source/Specific_Area_Message_Encoding) code: FRW) is a warning issued through the [Emergency Alert System](/source/Emergency_Alert_System) (EAS) in the [United States](/source/United_States) by civil authorities[1] to inform the public of major, uncontrolled fires (usually wildfires) threatening populated areas and/or major roadways.[2] A [red flag warning](/source/Red_flag_warning) (issued by the [National Weather Service](/source/National_Weather_Service) when low relative humidity and high winds and temperatures are expected) will generally precede any fire activity by at least one to two days.[3] A fire warning will generally include information on the location and movement of the fire[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*], evacuation instructions[2], and shelter locations.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] ## Example BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FIRE WARNING BORGER OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT RELAYED BY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AMARILLO TX 317 PM CDT FRI APR 13 2018 THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE BORGER OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.
