==Early and personal life==
Rothhaus graduated from [Merrimack High School](/source/Merrimack_High_School) in 1975, and went on to attend [Southern New Hampshire University](/source/Southern_New_Hampshire_University) and the [University of New Hampshire](/source/University_of_New_Hampshire). He also spent three years in the [U.S. Army](/source/U.S._Army). As of 2006 he had been married 20 years with three children. Outside politics Rothhaus worked as a servicer of spas and swimming pools.<ref name=mj/>
