# Ficheto Point

**Ficheto Point** (Nos Ficheto 'nos 'fi-che-to) is an ice-free point on the northeast coast of [Varna Peninsula](/source/Varna_Peninsula), [Livingston Island](/source/Livingston_Island), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica) forming the southeast side of the entrance to [Dragon Cove](/source/Dragon_Cove). *Channel Rock* ([62°27′47.8″S 60°04′51.5″W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=62_27_47.8_S_60_04_51.5_W)) is lying in the adjacent northwestern part of [McFarlane Strait](/source/McFarlane_Strait), 1.3 km (0.81 mi) northeast of Ficheto Point and 920 m (1,010 yd) south-southwest of [Meade Islands](/source/Meade_Islands). The area was visited by 19th century [sealers](/source/Seal_hunting).

The point is named after the famous [Bulgarian](/source/Bulgaria) architect, builder and sculptor Nikola Fichev – ‘[Kolyu Ficheto](/source/Kolyu_Ficheto)’ (1800–1881). Channel Rock was charted and descriptively named by the [Discovery Investigations](/source/Discovery_Investigations) in 1935.

## Location

Ficheto Point is located at [62°28′04″S 60°06′28″W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=62_28_04_S_60_06_28_W) which is2.3 km (1.4 mi) southeast of [Williams Point](/source/Williams_Point), 800 m (870 yd) east-southeast of [Sigritsa Point](/source/Sigritsa_Point), 1.3 km (0.81 mi) east of [Sayer Nunatak](/source/Sayer_Nunatak) and 2.9 km (1.8 mi) northwest of [Pomorie Point](/source/Pomorie_Point). (British mapping in 1935 and 1968, Bulgarian in 2005 and 2009).
