**Fernando San Emeterio Lara** (born 1 January 1984) is a Spanish professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) coach and former player. He is currently working as an [assistant coach](/source/Assistant_coach) for [Valencia](/source/Valencia_Basket) of the Spanish [Liga ACB](/source/Liga_ACB) and the [EuroLeague](/source/EuroLeague).

He was an [All-EuroLeague First Team](/source/All-EuroLeague_Team) selection in [2011](/source/2010%E2%80%9311_Euroleague), as well as the [ACB](/source/Liga_ACB) [MVP](/source/ACB_Most_Valuable_Player_Award) the same year.

## Professional career

San Emeterio began his professional career with [Valladolid](/source/CB_Valladolid), during the 2001–02 season. In 2006, he joined [Girona](/source/Akasvayu_Girona). In 2008, he moved to [Baskonia](/source/Saski_Baskonia). He was named the [ACB MVP](/source/ACB_Most_Valuable_Player_Award) in 2011.[1] In 2011, he signed a new four-year contract extension with Baskonia. On 30 June 2015, he parted ways with Baskonia.[2] On 8 July 2015, he signed a two-year contract with [Valencia Basket](/source/Valencia_Basket).[3] San Emeterio signed a contract extension on 13 July 2020.[4]

## Retirement

On 1 July 2021 San Emeterio announced his retirement from professional basketball.

## Coaching career

Following retirement, he has started his coaching career by becoming [assistant coach](/source/Assistant_coach) for [Valencia Basket](/source/Valencia_Basket) of the Spanish [Liga ACB](/source/Liga_ACB).[5]

## Spain national team

San Emeterio was a part of the Spain national team that won the bronze medal at the [2005 Mediterranean Games](/source/Basketball_at_the_2005_Mediterranean_Games). He also was a member of the senior men's [Spain national team](/source/Spain_men's_national_basketball_team) that participated at the [2010 FIBA World Championship](/source/2010_FIBA_World_Championship), and won the gold medal at the [EuroBasket 2011](/source/EuroBasket_2011). He also won the silver medal at the [2012 Summer Olympics](/source/Basketball_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_tournament),[6] the bronze medal at the [EuroBasket 2013](/source/EuroBasket_2013), and the gold medal at the [EuroBasket 2015](/source/EuroBasket_2015).
