==Biography==
He was elected to the [House of Commons of Canada](/source/House_of_Commons_of_Canada) for the Montreal riding of [St. James](/source/St._James_(federal_electoral_district)) in a 1920 [by-election](/source/by-election). A [Liberal](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Canada), he was re-elected in [1921](/source/1921_Canadian_federal_election), [1925](/source/1925_Canadian_federal_election), [1930](/source/1930_Canadian_federal_election), and [1935](/source/1935_Canadian_federal_election). From 1926 to 1930 and again from 1935 to 1939, he was the [Secretary of State for Canada](/source/Secretary_of_State_for_Canada).

From 1932 to 1934, he was the [mayor of Montreal](/source/mayor_of_Montreal).

He was brother to [Thibaudeau Rinfret](/source/Thibaudeau_Rinfret), the [Chief Justice of Canada](/source/Chief_Justice_of_Canada), and Charles Rinfret, a prominent Montreal businessman.
